Text or logo watermark?

Text stamps like CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT or COPY mark a document's status at a glance. A transparent PNG logo works better for branding — photographers and studios use it to protect sample PDFs sent to clients.

How visible should the watermark be?

Opacity matters more than size. 15–25% keeps the content easy to read while the stamp stays clearly visible; 40%+ is bold and harder to ignore but can obscure text. Diagonal stamps are also harder to crop out than horizontal ones.

Is a PDF watermark real protection?

It's a deterrent, not encryption — the stamp becomes part of the page content, so it discourages casual reuse and makes leaks traceable, but someone with editing software may remove it. For real confidentiality, combine it with the PDF protect tool.
